The cloud computing market has previously been dominated by a number of smaller organisations, but in the past week, two of the IT industry leaders have decided to jump on the cloud bandwagon.

Microsoft, the desktop giant, is planning to bring together its CRM and enterprise resource planning software within its Business Productivity Online Suite.

In San Francisco, Oracle introduced a ‘cloud in a box’ offering called Exalogic which will combine ‘hardware, software, networking and storage in one package, complete with 30 servers and a host of Virtual Machines.’

‘It’s one big honking cloud!’ exclaimed Larry Ellison, CEO of Oracle.

Previously, Ellison has dismissed Cloud as just ‘nonsense and water vapour’.
