Liquid Accounts Attracts Equity Investment to Target Rapid Market Growth

Yorkshire-based Liquid Accounts Ltd, a pioneer of Cloud Accounting in the UK, has successfully raised equity investment nearing £1 million in order to further its position as a market-leader in the fast-growing field of online accounting software (also known as Cloud Computing, or Software as a Service - SaaS).  The company raised the funding by selling an 18% stake to a syndicate of prominent local business angels, with a further 12% being match-funded by the Government's flagship fund for women-led businesses, The Aspire Fund.     The money will help the company open up new routes to market, allow it to focus on developing its sales and marketing activity, and fully exploit the growing demand for cost-effective and time-saving SaaS applications amongst small ...

Cloud Computing: The Next Disruptive Technology (and not just a new fad!)

Cloud Computing: The Next Disruptive Technology (and not just a new fad!) 'It's too limited!' 'It doesn't work the same!' 'I don't understand it!' 'It's not safe!' You may think that I'm talking about the 'new and scary' Cloud Computing or Software as a Service, but whilst these are some of the things that people are saying about the new online technologies, I'm actually talking about some of the things that were said about steam trains when they were the latest technology.  My point being, that whenever a new disruptive technology comes along (and yes, I do believe that this is the new disruptive technology!) that's destined to revolutionise the way we do things and render the old technology obsolete, this is ...

Cloud Accounting & Disruption Planning

Whether its flooding or the recent Arctic conditions, the weather seems to be having more and more of an effect on businesses (as well as our lives in general).  During December and January's snow and ice, 1 in 5 workers failed to get to work, an estimated £600 million a day was being lost, and 2000-3000 companies were predicted to fail.  These figures highlight the potential risks that our businesses face from circumstances beyond our control - and according to business information specialist, Dun and Bradstreet, 9% of businesses fail every year because of 'disaster'. The simple fact is that for most businesses, if you can't get to your premises (snow) or your premises are damaged or destroyed (flood, fire, theft) then ...

The case for Cloud Accounting

Why? The question of 'why should cash-strapped companies even be thinking about investing in new IT right now for their financial management and accounting systems?' is almost irrelevant! - now is the ideal time to be looking at it because the advent of online software has got rid of many of the issues and hassles with changing software and has definitely taken away the 'investment' element.  In a recession, it's imperative to have a good accounting system that fits your business to make sure that you survive - and it's a proven fact that you're more likely to fail if you don't - think of it as an insurance policy!  The key factor here is, if you aren't on top of ...

Is Cloud Computing a Viable Option for Financial Management?

Cloud Computing, online software, and SaaS (software as a service) are just some of the buzz words for a variety of emerging trends for accessing and using software, and transferring and storing data that you may have heard about recently.  However, what you may not have realised is that rather than just another technological development, this is a disruptive technology which is destined to change the way we do things forever (think trains in the 19th Century), and (like spreadsheets before it) is about to become an essential tool for FDs and accountants.  Now then, is that ideal time to start finding out about and understanding what it can do for you and your company, so that you'll be ready ...

Recruitment in the Recession – Don’t forget new graduates and students

I'm currently looking for staff and have just interviewed a new graduate (who was on a report on Look North about graduates struggling to find jobs in the recession, and had just the sort of skills and degree I was looking for!) and I'm about to start interviews for 2 sandwich-placement students from Leeds Metropolitan University (as they too are struggling to find year-long placements as part of their course).  However, as we went through the same issues when we were starting out (incidentally in the last recession!) and know that we wouldn't be where we are today without that initial 'leg up' we make it a policy to try and help-out and nurture young talent as much as we ...

What happens as you grow? Growing  your business is very exciting and there will be numerous challenges for you to face and numerous demands on your time and money - recruitment and staffing costs, marketing, premises, increasing sales, and more rules and regulations to comply with on employment law, HR, Health and Safety, pensions etc.  Number one on the list of issues to address though, should be managing your accounts: At the end of the day, it will be the money that dictates whether your new plans succeed or fail!
