BASDA announce launch of Cloud Vendor Charter

Matt Holmes, MD of Liquid Accounts and Chair of the BASDA Cloud Special Interest Group is pleased to announce the launch of BASDA’s Cloud Vendor Charter.

Matt said, ‘This has been a priority for us, and something we’ve been working on since we launched the BASDA Cloud SIG 18 months ago.  It is intended as a guideline that companies can use when they are developing or selling new cloud software.  It helps them to think through the practicalities and implications for people using their software and covers crucial issues like back-ups and security.

At Liquid Accounts we have 10 years experience of creating cloud accounting software and have therefore been addressing and dealing with these issues for several years.  However, there are a large number of companies coming into the cloud market every month and they need to be aware of the sorts of concerns that their potential customers will have about using online software or SaaS.”

The charter is intended to be the minimum standard of technical professionalism, and to promote a responsible approach to data management, application availability, security, and customer management throughout the life cycle of the customer engagement.  BASDA members can certify themselves, free of charge, and apply for a dedicated logo to use on their literature.  All approved signatories will be promoted as being part of the scheme.

Matt has also this week joined the governing body of the Cloud Industry Forum and the BASDA Charter launch coincides with launch of their Code of Practice.  BASDA has therefore negotiated a 50% discount on registration for the Code of Practice for BASDA members who have signed the BASDA Charter. This means that they can offer their customers accreditation from 2 standards rather than 1 and double the guarantee.

Matt said: ‘Whereas the BASDA Charter is intended purely for cloud software vendors and developers who are members of BASDA, the Cloud Industry Forum Code of Practice is intended as a standard for the whole cloud industry and is far more wide-reaching.  It covers transparency, compatibility and accountability and aims to be create a firm foundation that will help cloud become accepted and mainstream, as it is predicted to do.’
